As part of the 25th anniversary commemorations of the Falklands Conflict, the Malvina House Hotel was delighted to play host to a number of visiting VIP’s. This group included veterans from the armed forces in 1982, members of the Falkland Families Association and representatives from the Governments of the UK, Jersey, St Helena and the Cayman Islands in addition to a number of other distinguished guests.

During the course of the commemorations, the hotel was asked to provide a tapas buffet for the welcome party at the Town Hall for 245 guests and later catered for the 6 course gala dinner for 140 guests, where the guest of honour was His Royal Highness, Prince Edward the Earl of Wessex.

The final event was the farewell party, with the Malvina again providing a buffet for the 200 guests at the Town Hall.

The Malvina House Hotel would like to express its appreciation for all those who were involved in the liberation of the Islands 25 years ago.

Green Malvina - Solar Panels Installed
15/12/2006
Following the decision taken earlier in the year, The Malvina House Hotel is pleased to announce that
the Solar Panels have been installed on the Hotel and all internal plumbing has been completed successfully.

Builder Dennis Harris undertook the installation of the panels on the roof of the hotel and Plumber Ken Newton undertook the plumbing within the building. Mr Carl Stroud Manager of the Hotel noted that he was very pleased with the work undertaken by both Mr Harris and Mr Newton. Mr Stroud believes that having such green credentials along with the Hotel’s progression to use only recycled paper and increase use of local produced foodstuffs and Fair Trade Coffee and Teas can only improve the Hotel’s reputation and is equally a good advertisement for the Falkland Islands.

During the month of July, the Malvina House Hotel have been asking all their Customers to complete a questionnaire about their views on smoking in the bar/lounge and public areas of the Hotel.

The results of the Questionnaire have now been collated and Mr Carl Stroud Manager of the hotel notes “ out of a response of 103 completed forms an overwhelming 75% of respondents would like a complete ban on smoking in the bar and public areas”.

Mr Stroud added that in addition a large number of respondents who wished to see smoking allowed would continue to visit the Bar/lounge areas. Only 1.89% of customers would not visit the hotel again if the smoking ban were introduced.
